"I’m having trouble getting my work out there. I have a hard time finding the self-confidence. If it was up to me, I’d just make my work in isolation and not worry about the marketing or promotion, but I know I can’t do that. The problem is— my work is really quiet. It’s very subtle and subdued. It takes time to appreciate. And there’s so much image saturation in today’s world, it seems that only the most aggressive imagery is getting noticed. I’m finding that it takes a lot of boldness to take a firm stance in making quiet work."
Hello lovely readers! Daniel here! I hope all of you had a fabulous turkey day with friends and family! Today we are featuring quite the talented little hag, Leslie Hubilla! For those of you who donât know, she is a pretty big deal for someone so little! She is known to serve some fierce fashion, killer dance moves and can be seen on hit shows like Americaâs Best Dance Crew as well as co-directing Funkanometry NY, a New York based urban dance company/art presenter. Leslie and I have known each other for some years now, we trained together in San Francisco at Lines Ballet School (yes this little hip hopper can also serve a pointe shoe). During our time at ballet school we got our nickames, âThe Littlesâ, known for always looking cute and sometimes wearing matching outfits to parties (a true fag/hag relationship)! Since returning to the east coast Leslie has been performing with Sidra Bell New York as well as returning to school as a full time student to get her degree in Psychology with a focus on movement and drama therapy. Upon graduating this winter Leslie plans to return to the New York dance scene in full force as well as continue a new journey into acting. But let’s talk a little bit about Leslie’s fashion! It’s hard to say that she has only one style because this little lady can pull off almost anything. Trendy hipster, sporty hip hopper or funky chic, this girl can do it. She can even pull off my personal favorite Grandpa style! She has a knack for sourcing out highly trendy outfits that don’t cost a fortune, a vintage queen you might say. She always seems to find those treasures hidden in the racks! All in all, I adore her and think she’s fabulous, we have put together a variety of looks for you to see, enjoy!  To find out more about Leslie check out her website : http://lesliehubilla.tumblr.com/ You can also follow her on twitter @Lhubillagorilla  Till Monday readers, have a great weekend! On Thanksgiving Eve, I give thanks to still be here living and breathing and with my friends and family. What we witnessed last year with Hurricane Sandy was merely a fraction of what people in the Philippines have gone through with Typhoon Haiyan recently.
I’m sure you have seen pictures or footage. I was so heartbroken.
I teamed with Arts for PI to create an Imagine If… Campaign. Imagine if your whole neighborhood was wiped out, your house ripped out of its foundation, being separated from your loved ones and not knowing where they were aftewards….
More videos to come…
On December 6, various artists from the East Coast will be performing at Arts For Philippines: Typhoon Haiyan Benefit Show. Proceeds goes to the Red Cross.
When: December 6, 2013
Where: The International High School @ Prospect Heights 883 Classon Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11225
